The beaches in Tanna vary from dark black sand through a mix of white coral sand and black volcanic sand to white sand beaches. The sand sparkles white in the full sun. Shells and bleached corals have rolled up on the high tide line - a shopping mall for curious beach walkers lusting after a colourful sea shell. Get down, elbows in the sand, and discover a whole new world of micro-mollusks.

The big waves roll up on the outer reef sending long white rows of foam rippling over the corals. At the edge of the sand there is only a gentle wash. The water is surprisingly cool.

There is lots of sea life in the protected, shallow lagoon. Outside the coral reef the diving is spectacular with the reef extending eastwards for a long way.
